This is why so many performance mods exist and a community made "unofficial patch" mod has existed for every Bethesda game since Morrowind (from what I remember). Fallout 4 and 76 both use this engine and its a terrible out dated engine. Then Skyrim used what is called the Creation engine, which was based off of Gamebryo which was based off NetImmersive. Also some settlement modifying mods can cause frequent CTDs. Change the settings and see if the issue is solved. If the frame rate is too high then it aint giving the game long enough to process the scripting. If you face a Fallout 4 crash on the startup, navigate the compatibility settings. Which then became the Gamebryo engine for Oblivion, Fallout 3, NV. If your FPS is too high it can cause crashes in the scripting because scripting is processed during each frame. You will get a performance hit and you will need to follow the steps to install properly. These are just some fixes and performance tweaks to get a better overall experience.
